Build-it! offers a completely new approach to educating young people, and the general public, about building construction, conservation and sustainable city development.

Objectives

Build-it! has been conceived by PHD to provide a range of educational exhibitions and affordable resources that will:

• increase the amount of high quality built environment education provided in the UK;

• help schools in the delivery of the National Curriculum, and support
further education providers;

• assist museums and discovery centres in the development of hands-on displays about the built environment;

• help the construction industry interest young people in developing construction - related skills and, in the process, create a collaborative project which improves communication within the industry;

•support the educational work of environmental and heritage organisations and other built environment educators.

Method

To achieve these objectives PHD aims to:

• create a range of Build-it! resources in collaboration with senior specialists from the construction industry and the heritage, environment, education and cultural sectors;

• encourage exhibition venues across the UK to develop and manage Build-it! exhibitions within their permanent displays;

• work in collaboration with academic institutions to develop multi-
functional digital city models for public use;

• develop the commercial potential of Build-it!, to reduce the cost of exhibitions, digital models and small-scale resources, and to encourage private sector investment in the Build-it! range.
