Polly Hudson Design (PHD) is an independent research and design organisation that develops new methods of communicating information about the built environment. Our main aim is to increase the amount of high quality built environment education provided in the UK and to improve communication within the built environment sector.

PHD generally initiates its own projects, bringing together academics, designers, artists and education specialists to develop specific ideas. Our 2007 - 2010 programme explores the following three methods of communication:

• hands-on exhibitions and large-scale interactives (Build-it!)
• small-scale educational resources and toys
• multi-functional, photo-realistic digital models

From 2010 our programme will focus on long term development proposals for a National Building Museum.

Polly Hudson Design (PHD) was set up in 2007 by Polly Hudson, founder of The Building Exploratory charitable trust. Her designs also include The Building of Bath Museum, shortlisted for the European Museum of the Year Award 1992, and her work in the construction industry, the site management of the multi-award-winning restoration contract at Prior Park. She has been a board member of The New Opportunities (Lottery) Fund, a panel advisor for English Heritage and a member of the Joint (DCMS/DfES) Advisory Committee on Built Environment Education (JACBEE) which was set up by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in 2003 to look at the future of built environment education in the UK.
